Established in 1896, Friant's Inc. has been serving the South Jersey region for over 110
years. We have built a solid reputation as being a reliable business with quality products and unmatched customer service.
It is our goal to continue that tradition and continue serving the region for another 100 plus years.
Horace Friant
of Mount Holly was the original founder of Friant's home improvement store. Originally, our location was up the
street at 76 High Street. There Friant sold wall paper, paint supplies, window shades, and other common household products.
He was also a builder who specialized in building barns for local farmers. We actually have some old receipts for services
performed back in the early 1900s.
Once Horace Friant passed away in 1929 the business changed hands a number of
times. Brooke Tidswell Sr., a local banker, purchased the business in the 1940s and ran the business until 1974.
He made many improvements to the business including bringing in products such as storm windows, storm doors, flooring, awnings,
and expanding on many other home improvement product lines. It was during this time (1956) that Brooke Tidswell Sr.'s
son, Brooke Tidswell III, and local man Tom Wells Sr. began to work at the store.
Brooke Tidswell III and
Tom Wells Sr. bought the business together from Brooke Sr. in 1974. They continued to practice the same high quality
customer service that their predecessors had. It was 1976 when the decision was made to move to a bigger and more efficient
location at 21 High Street (our present location). At this same time, Tom Wells Jr. began working at the family business.
He started out working in the repair shop and gradually worked his way up to being a full time field installer.
Tom Wells Sr. then took over the soul ownership of the business in 1980. With this he moved towards making Friant's
Inc. a specialty business that would only deal with high quality products, but still offer merchandise that fit every customers
needs. He expanded the awning, window, door, window treatment, and repair lines to make this accommodation. With
all of these improvements, Friant's further solidified it's reputation as a quality home improvement business in South
Jersey. Tom Wells Sr. passed on the business and those principles to his son, Tom Wells Jr., who is now the current
owner of the business.
